Telework Dessert Reception on Capitol Hill

On September 18, Telework Exchange, along with BlackBerry, CDW-G, Verizon, and Sprint, hosted a Telework Dessert Reception to raise awareness of telework on Capitol Hill, in the Federal government, and across America. Congressman Danny Davis, and more than 200 Hill staffers and Federal telework leaders, joined forces to discuss how the latest technology is pushing telework and mobility to the forefront of workplace operations.

Incoming Obama Administration Keen on Telework

President-Elect Barack Obama is well aware of the productivity, budgetary, and morale-boosting benefits inherent in telework and, by all indications, will encourage and help Federal agencies significantly expand their telework efforts.

For example, in one of several letters written to John Gage, national president of the American Federation of Government Employees, then candidate Obama provided details on his executive vision for the Department of Labor, discussing his ideas on wage policies, workplace safety, and more progressive work arrangements that support work/life balance.

"I believe that it's time we stopped talking about family values and start pursuing policies that truly value families, such as paid family leave, flexible work schedules, and telework, with the Federal government leading by example," Obama wrote.

The president-elect's strong support for workplace flexibility was also noted on his campaign Web site, wherein he promised to increase Federal incentives for teleworking initiatives; create a program to inform businesses about the benefits of telework and help them create flexible work opportunities; and make sure that the Federal government is seen as a model employer for telework and other flexible work arrangements.
